Long-term mental abuse is closely related to developing anxiety. All of the trauma and stress that accumulate over time eventually result in developing a mental disorder, out of which anxiety is the most common.

There is much stigma in regards to verbal abuse, so many people actually consider it legitimate. But, insulting, yelling, and treating someone with lack of respect causes a lot of damage to the person affected. As a matter of fact, the results from verbal abuse are as harmful to one`s health as physical abuse.

Verbal Abuse Is the Worst Form of Abuse

No matter whether it is real-life bullying or cyber bullying, any form of verbal abuse is extremely detrimental. It has been scientifically shown that it actually affects both brain hemispheres.

Ongoing and long-term verbal abuse, particularly beginning from a very young age, leads to a wide range of issues later on.

Verbal and emotional abuses are pretty much the same thing, as abusing someone verbally gets to them on an emotional level, damaging their confidence and self-esteem.

These traumas negatively affect the overall mental development of a person, which is something that no one wants for themselves or their loved ones.

1. Name Calling

Those who tend to abuse someone verbally use the technique of name calling to manipulate the victim.

2. Behind Closed Doors

Most of the abuse occurs in a closed environment, such as home or school.

3. Not Appreciating

Abusers never appreciate person`s achievements, hard work, and any other success.

4. Mood-Destroyers

Abusers lose control when you are feeling good, so they bring you down in order to feel superior.

5. Attacks the Person’s Interests

Abusers tend to attack person`s interests, hobbies, and everything they like in order to make them feel like they are not good enough.  If you notice such behavior, act on it!!

6. Always Right

Most abusers act as if they are Mr. or Mrs. Right. They never apologize or even admit their mistakes in the first place. They believe that they are right about everything without an exception.

7. Isolated

The victims of verbal abuse often tend to isolate themselves from being around people and socializing.  This is due to their lack of self-esteem which makes them anxious when they are around people.

8. Take the Blame

Abusers blame the person for whatever and in any given situation, without an exception.

9. Jokes

Making jokes about someone seems fun,  but doing it without the consent of the person makes them feel frustrated and anxious.
